Public School/High School Reunion:
Yesterday I realized that - even at my age - I could still embrace the freedom of behaving like a 12-year-old while dinning in public.
Last week, I received an email from old friend who'd managed to track me down through a-friend-of-a-friend. We hadn't been close since grade eight or nine but I was curious about what she’d been up to so I wrote her back. After exchanging few emails and a phone call we made dinner plans.
Yesterday, we met. (Despite butterflies in my stomach and the fear sharing uncomfortable silence.)
But it turned out to be a fun-filled evening of story telling and reminiscing.
We didn't just talk about the "good 'ol days" which was a relief. Our conversations seemed genuine and comfortable - despite the attentive ears of the nearby pizza lovers. (Did I mention that the bulk of the "reunion" took place at Pizza Hut?)
It was incredible revising the days of my first air band (a Poison tribute band. Yes, we had big hair and real guitars - I think?) It was as if no time had passed since we’d last seen each other, which meant we were behaving like giggly teens. (Sigh)
Alas, upon arriving home - settling at my computer, checking email and transcribing a taped interview - I realized how much time had really past since I was 12.
